The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has reached a critical point, with Ukraine accusing Russia of breaking a unilateral ceasefire. This ceasefire, proposed by Kyiv, was set to come into effect at midnight on Wednesday, but Russia's relentless attacks have shattered any hopes of peace. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, has slammed Russia's actions, emphasizing their disregard for human lives and their feigned calls for peace. The attacks have been particularly devastating, with multiple cities across eastern Ukraine bearing the brunt of the strikes. The southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia witnessed a deadly attack using guided aerial bombs and Iranian-designed Shahed drones, resulting in the deaths of 12 people and injuries to 20. Further north, Kramatorsk suffered the impact of powerful glide bombs, claiming six lives and injuring 12. The Poltava region also experienced a tragic strike on gas production facilities, leading to the loss of five lives. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described these attacks as "cynical, vile" and "senseless terrorist strikes" devoid of any military strategy. He accused Russia of displaying "utter cynicism" by continuing its attacks while claiming to observe a ceasefire. The situation is further complicated by Ukraine's own offensive actions. Before the ceasefire came into effect, Ukrainian forces launched F-5 Flamingo cruise missiles at military-industrial complex facilities in Cheboksary, located over 900 miles away. They also targeted the Kirishi oil refinery in the Leningrad region, causing a blaze in the industrial zone. The Ukrainian drone attacks have not been limited to Russian territory. In the Russian-occupied Crimea, annexed in 2014, five civilians were killed in the town of Dzhankoi in a Ukrainian drone attack. The Russian Defense Ministry, however, claims to have destroyed 289 Ukrainian drones across 18 Russian regions.
