Samsung Unveils Innovative Privacy Display Features at MWC 2026
Samsung Display is making waves at the MWC 2026 conference with its cutting-edge Galaxy S26 Ultra's Privacy Display. But that's not all – they're also showcasing new ways to utilize this feature on specific display sections and a unique slidable phone concept.
The star of the show is the "Flex Magic Pixel" technology, which powers the Privacy Display on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Visitors to the booth got a firsthand look at this technology in action. One of the most intriguing aspects is Samsung's ongoing development of a feature that allows for partial display sections to be switched to privacy mode.
Currently, Samsung uses this for incoming notifications, but the MWC 2026 reveal introduced two exciting new variations:
- Bottom Half Coverage: This option covers the bottom half of the display, leaving the top half illuminated. While it might not be immediately obvious why this is useful, it could be beneficial for apps that require PIN or pattern unlocking, like banking apps. Secure app optimization could further enhance this feature.
- Edge Panel Coverage: This feature is still in the experimental phase and may not be immediately useful, but it's a step towards offering more customizable privacy options.
Samsung explained that these partial coverage features are under development and not yet ready for commercialization, but the hardware is technically prepared. This means they could be introduced in future software updates, providing users with even more flexibility in managing their privacy.
In addition to the Privacy Display advancements, Samsung showcased other display concepts, including the LEAD 2.0, which promises thinner bezels and brighter panels while still integrating Flex Magic Pixel technology. They also presented a slidable phone concept, previously unveiled at CES 2025, where one device was active but stationary, and the other was moving but inactive.
Throughout the booth, Samsung demonstrated the practical application of Qi2 magnets by mounting Galaxy S26 Ultras on magnetic mounts with stickers on the back.
Other highlights from MWC 2026 include:
- Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3: Designed to withstand years of drops, it made its debut on the Razr Fold.
- Adorable Androids: These MWC 2026 androids are ready for XR glasses demos.
- Nothing Phone (4a) Colors: The colors were revealed, but the Phone (4a) Pro remains a mystery.
