Merseyside Encounters Its First Snow of 2026: A Weather Warning from the Met Office
As the dawn breaks over Merseyside, residents are greeted by a stunning blanket of snow, with more wintry showers anticipated throughout the day. Today, Sunday, the region is experiencing snowfall that is settling on the ground, prompting the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning for snow and ice that will remain in effect for much of the day.
A representative from the Met Office stated, "Snow showers are expected to move further inland across Wales, parts of northwest England, the West Midlands, and southwest England as the evening approaches. While coastal areas may see some rain and sleet, the inland regions will predominantly experience snow."
The spokesperson further elaborated, "Although not every location within the warning area will receive snow, many places could see 1-3 cm accumulate by Monday morning, with certain areas, especially in the higher and inland parts of Wales, potentially receiving 5-8 cm. Additionally, icy patches are likely to form widely, creating hazardous conditions."
Images shared with the ECHO from Aigburth and Everton this morning depict a picturesque scene of snow covering the landscape. The ECHO will continue to provide live updates on the weather conditions in Merseyside and the broader northwest region. If you have captured any photos of the snow in your area, we encourage you to share them with us!
