A medical convoy from Egypt has arrived in Sudan, bringing a team of 13 senior consultants and a wealth of expertise to support the country's healthcare system. The mission, running from December 20th to 27th, is a testament to Egypt's commitment to international aid and solidarity. This initiative is a direct response to the challenges faced by Sudan's healthcare sector, which has been significantly impacted by recent events. More than 70% of health institutions have been damaged, and the Red Sea State, in particular, is under additional strain as a safe haven. The convoy's arrival is a crucial step in enhancing the capacity of hospitals to provide advanced medical services and alleviate the burden on citizens. The team comprises specialists in various fields, including neurosurgery, general surgery, spinal surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, thyroid surgery, and vascular surgery. These experts are offering their services at no cost, conducting medical examinations and surgical interventions at two hospitals: the Prince Osman Digna Referral Hospital and the Sea Ports Authority Hospital. The mission is a collaborative effort between the Egyptian government, led by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, and key ministries such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, and the Ministry of Health and Population. In addition to the medical team, Egypt has delivered 200 filled oxygen cylinders to Sudan's Northern State, further demonstrating its comprehensive approach to addressing urgent health requirements. The Governor of Red Sea State, Major General Mustafa Mohammed Nour, warmly welcomed the medical mission, highlighting the historical and brotherly ties between Egypt and Sudan. Dr. Ahlam Abdel Rasoul, the Director-General of the State Health Sector and Acting Minister, expressed gratitude for Egypt's support, emphasizing the convoy's role in providing vital assistance to the Sudanese health sector. Dr. Mohammed Kamal Mohammed, Director of the Prince Osman Digna Referral Hospital, assured that the medical and administrative staff are fully prepared to collaborate with the Egyptian mission, aiming for the best health outcomes for the citizens. The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development emphasizes that this mission is a significant step towards reducing the strain on citizens, filling gaps in specialized medical disciplines, and localizing treatment within the state. Moreover, it underscores Egypt's dedication to supporting African nations and fostering solidarity through its humanitarian and developmental initiatives.
